Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Logan stopped to listen to a band play in the streets of Kellan, giving a few silver pieces to their donation box with glee. After all, it seemed only right to give them money for actually performing well; it was usually hard to randomly come across a band playing in the middle of a street with any real amount of skill. He couldn’t really play an instrument, but he knew what he liked, and this band was actually rather good.

Several feelings mixed in as he listened to the band, good, neutral, evil, order, chaos. He couldn’t tell if it was the band of the crowd that was forming around them, tossing coins in donation of various metals. Copper, silver, gold, somebody with a considerable amount of money even tossed in a platinum piece. Now Logan was wishing he learned how to play an instrument, it would be a lot better than the mercenary work, though it did let him travel more… maybe he could learn to play an instrument anyway, then he could be a sort of bard merc combination thing. It could be fun… if he had the first clue on how much it cost to get somebody to teach him… He shrugged, putting the thought aside for a later time.

Eventually the band, unfortunately inevitably, stopped playing, took a bit of a bow and thanked the people for donating money. The werewolf had not real clue what they would use the money for, as far as he knew they were probably going to pay bandits to raid the village for a cut of the profits, for all he knew they were bandits who were scouting ahead, he didn’t really care. And besides, the smell of food was on the air, a smell he decided to follow very readily.

(In human form)

Ulfr sat on the roof of a building that a band had taken the liberty to start playing next to. They were excellent, and began to aquire quite a bit of money. While Ulfr did enjoy their artistic ability, something else quickly caught his attention; the scent of another were, and a lycan at that.

Ulfr scanned the crowd looking for the lycan, and, as the crowd began to disapate due to the band packing up and getting ready to move on, either to another town or the tavern, Ulfr's eyes found the source of the scent.

The lycan was standing still, having not yet moved away from his spot since the band had quit, with a green-striped hat.

Ulfr jumped off the building and landed in front of the lycan. He stuck out his hand and introduced himself.

"Ulfr Windpelt, welcome to Kellen. What might your name be?" He asked with that wolfish grin of his on his face

"Beaver, come look-"

Something grasped at the hems of his robes. Beaver blinked, eyes rheumy. The mage yawned. This 'academic outing' was turning more boring than usual. He'd already completed his herbalism assignment some time ago and the weather here had been particularly nice so he'd decided to close his eyes for a few moments...

"Don't just fall asleep on me again," the girl groused.

"There's... huhhh... bitterleaf by the-"

The next thing he knew it she had him by the leg and was waving him about like a poor sock puppet. Argh, he should have kept his mouth shut. Damascus. Inheritor of a powerful bloodline of reinforcement magic. She specialized in strength. And was awfully touchy about her poor grades. Never accepted help from anyone which didn't exactly make things easy for her.

Or for him. Damn his sparkling personality and automatic need to point out odd points of trivia that just so happened to coincide with their homework.

"Alright, alright, I'm awake." She kept on swinging him around at which point he felt obliged to add: "And about to hurl."

Being dropped on the head never got any easier.

"Take it easy Dammie. What's so-"

Beaver rubbed his eyes. Damascus was... ugh... sparkling. This was probably bad news.

"There's this awesome band-"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's all YOUR fault we missed them.
Hollis had taken to the...Adventure in her. She decided to go to Kellen. Odd name of a City.I wonder what is in there?Thought Hollis.
Though, the one time that she had been out into the world, her heart had been broken, she went out again! Why, you may ask? She doesn't know! But who cares!! She got out, which is what her mother wanted, right? Oh while!
Hollis saw that there was a band finishing up and thought it better to see if they could do one more song for her. If not, she would see if she could go and look around the city some more!
"Could you please play one more song? I would like to, if that is okay? What else was I going to say? Thought Hollis.
It was strange. At that moment, she thought that there was a good reason, a reason that would take her on another adventure, that she was here. "Why do these things keep happening to me?" Hollis mumbled.
((Sorry, I am not used to working with more then one person. If you look at past topics of mine, you well see that I dropped out of the one that really wrong. Didn't like. To many, to fast! But thank you for the idea of doing this. ))
Logan’s head perked up from whatever thought was running through his mind. Whatever it had been, he just as quickly forgot it as formulated it, for all he knew it was a way for some semblance of world peace and economic trade routes, or to bring the entire world of Chaon to its knees at his feet. He would have shrugged but the thing which had made his thoughts disappear into nothing with a mild distraction was standing right in front of him. The smell was too obvious, it was a werewolf, apparently a friendly one at that, apparently neutral good from that sort of sixth sense that Logan had.
“Alan Thyme.” He said simply with a slight sort of trickster smile. It was probably him being overcautious, but he never trusted anybody he just met, especially not with his name. Names could be fickle things, drop a name here with some heavily criminal act, and then you get tied to something you had absolutely nothing to do with. He had come up with the alias a few years ago when the thought passed his mind, this was actually the first time he really got to use it.
He looked around, another case of mild paranoia, maybe, but not many people were exactly around. The band was packing up their supplies, collecting their instruments and money. A girl walked up to them and asked about playing another song or something along those lines, lawful evil with an out-of-his-league appearance. He looked away from her, still past the werewolf in front of him at a guy around his age that seemed to be stuck babysitting, he was apparently just neutral.
There weren’t that many people to scan since most of the crowd had dispersed. He was rather pleased with being able to focus enough to figure out somebody’s alliance. He finally looked back to the werewolf in front of him, “Yeah, I’m pretty aware of the pun in my alias. I have trust issues, though.” He shrugged with a smile on his wolfen face.
“And, uh… Ool-a-fur? H-how do you spell your name?” He asked a bit confused, wondering just a bit if the man in front of him was joking with him just a bit.
"Yeah, yeah! You guys should definitely play more!" Damascus said all sunshine and good cheer now that she had a stalwart ally who understood her tastes.
Beaver might have mentioned something under his breath about this being ever-so-slightly useless.
Then he might have cowered instinctively when a girl a good foot shorter than him threatened to punt him across the city. It was a village, not a city but for all the pedantic semantics he probably wouldn't survive the trip without serious head trauma and probable death.
He sighed and forked out some loose change.
"Just one song, al'ight?" One of the more reasonable-looking minstrels said with a sigh and a smile. That was probably bad for business which made Beaver think twice about who these people actually were. In it for the art, perhaps?
Another musician, who was giving off serious creep-o vibes smiled warmly at three youngsters, whipped off his hat, bowed and then started strumming his lute.
Damascus squealed.
...
"Leaves in the wind... falling so slow... like fragile, tiny-"
Damn, he really didn't want to say this but they really weren't all that bad.
"Thank you very much!" whispered Hollis. She then went to stand next the girl that had wanted them to play more as while.
She wanted to say something, but what? And, more importantly, HOW? I could say something like, "Thank you for asking them to play more. I was scared that if it had just been me, they wouldn't had! Thank You again! Might I ask what your name is? Not to be rude, but, still...." After all, what else should I say? I think that I well do that then, just say that. I am sure that that things like that happen all the time if she does things like, more often then not, most likely! So, that is just what she did. Hollis asked the girl name, that is all! Just her name!!
"Excuse me, but might I ask your name? If it hadn't been for you, I would have felt very foolish, indeed! So, I must also say, thank you to you as while. So, what is your name? That was all that she said. Well, more whispered then anything.
Ulfr frowned a little as he said "What pun? And I guess everyone has some kind of issues, eheheh," he chuckled, with his smile coming back to his face. The band had begun to play again at the begging of some little girl.
Alan asked Ulfr to spell his name, as he had tried to pronounce it, with difficulty. Ulfr chuckled some more. "Sorry, but I don't even know that. I was raised by a pack of wolves, so I never learned to read or write. But its pronounced Ull-fair, eheheh," he chuckled just a bit more.
(OOC: (first syslable ryhmes with lull, and second obviously fair, at least thats the way I do it))
BinC:
Ulfr took more notice of the band playing. "You know Alan, this is the first time they've played in Kellen, as far as I can remember anyways,"
"Little... soldier... "
Damascus was clearly enthralled by the performance and didn't hear the question. Beaver, who wasn't quite as caught up (or crying, damnit) by the thoughtful, entirely too poignant ballad answered in her stead.
"Come marching..."
"She's Damascus, heir to the House of Endymion." He whispered furtively. "Also known as Dammie. And Idiot. As well as That Idiot Witch Whose Strength Is So Idiotic She Can Hit People With Carriages-"
Clearly capable of hearing, Dammie dug the heel of her shoe into his foot and told him, ever so sweetly, to shut up. Or rather her foot did the talking and since it was still magically enhanced by her particular brand of reinforcement magic he heard it very, very clearly.
The band was down to their last line, anyway.
"Braaaave soldier boy... come marching hooooooome..."
Beaver clapped politely as the band finished their encore - Damascus clapped extremely enthusiastically with tears streaming from her eyes. The small crowd of onlookers who hadn't seen the initial performance were clapping too.
“Raised by wolfs, eh? That seems a bit… done. Usually humans are adopted, though.” He shrugged, watching as the band began to play at the request of the two girls which were there. It could almost be seen as a sort of tag team effort to get them to play another song. Both things were funny thoughts, that the were in front of him was actually raised by wolves, and that the two girls could have secretly been collaborating to coax another song from the band. Oh well, hearing another one off their songs was definatley an enjoyable thing.
“I was just raised alongside a wolf with an alpha personality in a pretty good home. Of course, he fully recognized that my dad was much more alpha than he could hope to be, so he just lived in the lap of luxury exerting his power and eating yappy little dogs.” Logan smirked at the thought, a much more comedical image running through his head of a small yappy dog getting gulped up. Then the thought of what it really looked like, a bit grosser but at least then they were quiet.
“We think he’s some sort of magical Dire, considering he’s still kicking and running around. Magical Dire Timberwolf.” He mused aloud, the thought seeming a lot more farfetched but the only idea that anybody could really come up with about the large shaggy wolf.
“Ull Fair. Ulfr. How is it, you seem to speak pretty good common, you look pretty close to human, yet you haven’t learned to red or write?” He asked bluntly, finding it a bit confusing how somebody could go so far through life and not learn some basic things like that, yet somehow speak the language with little apparent difficulty. The world was definatley weird, and something told him it was going to get weirder the more he explored it.
He looked up from Ulfr again, this time aplpauding the music the band had played. He was happy he could speak and listen to some music at the same time, a rare treat until some form of magic to catch the sound and play it repeatedly could be made.
As Hollis watched the two of them, she figured that they must be brother and sister or something. She clapped with everyone else and went up to them and gave them a few gold pieces.
"Dammie, you said? That is a nice name, I guess. Could I came with you two? I have never been here before and wouldn't like to explore by myself." Hollis looked around at the crowd and saw what looked like to wolf like people talking to each other. I wonder who they are? I don't know. Maybe I well try and get them if these two don't want me to follow them. *shrugs* Who knows. Hollis looked around at the other two.
The band had packed up and left by now and the crowd was leaving. Where would these two go?
((Sorry for it being short! I am not very creative right now!!))
Alan began to speak of a possible magical dire wolf that he had grown up with, just as the band began to repack their things and be on their way. Alan had asked how did Ulfr come to speak common so well, yet he could neither read nor write.
"Well, when I went out to see what the world was like in human society, I was looked upon as an outcast when I revealed my, *cough* talents. I grew tired of their stupidity. When I tried to return to my pack, a hunting party had come through and killed them. But not before they got about eight of the hunters themselves. Anyway, I had to stay around humans, and eventually I just learned the language from hearing it. That's actually how babies learn." Ulfr answered, as he could feel someone looking at him and Alan. He turned around to see some girl eyeing them; Ulfr supposed they did attract attention, as he looked lik a human obviously talking to an obvious lycan.
"Problem is, I haven't figured out how to do it in were form, eheheh," Ulfr laughed. He was trying to think of things to say to continue their conversation, and then he had a question that just might do the trick.
"So, how did you come to be a lycan Alan? he asked.
"Ah," Damascus said smiling, she looked slightly flustered, "I guess you could - we're on a class, um, fieldtrip right now but I don't think the teachers will mind."
Beaver opened his mouth to complain - while he was done his assignment, there was a certain midget genius who most definitely wasn't. Apparently capable of mind-reading alongside her other litany of skills, Damascus stared daggers at him over the girl's shoulder and he closed it. The girl had few enough friends because of her highborn status and less because she was, to put it mildly, terrifying to be around when angry.
Made you wonder what Beaver was doing being her friend, hm? Story for another time.
"We're actually looking for some plants - apparently there's a special one that grows between the flagstones that only grows here. Wanna help out?" Damascus said, smiling only a bit too widely which betrayed a lie - there was no such plant and really, they didn't need to...
Gah, she was ridiculously endearing given she never tried particularly hard at anything except making friends- an endeavor which tended to blow up in her face.
Beaver relaxed and let the lie slip past. Couldn't hurt, right?
"I am sorry, but I don't know much about plants. Do you think that your teacher would let me stay still. I don't know anything about this place and would like to be with someone who does." said Hollis. Hollis looked up at the boy. She giggled a little at how Damacus seemed to be in charge of him... "And how do you know" Hollis asked in a whisper"that she 'That Idiot Witch Whose Strength Is So Idiotic She Can Hit People With Carriages'? Just wondering. She looks like a... I wouldn't say perfectly,but, something like that. Maybe...? "...a nice girl to me." Hollis decided to stop whispering and said-" And what might your name be? Do you travel at all, you look sort of like someone that i have seen. I don't know, it might just be the light or something!" Hollis looked around."There are those two men. I wonder who they are? They look so... so... so out of place here with all these "normal" people..."
"In any case, I don't want to make you late for your class or anything. I guess we well meet again in this city..." Hollis started to walk away... To go some where, anywhere. She didn't care where. Just... somewhere.
So, Hollis, in just a pair of old jeans and a blank black t-shirt, starts off across the road, to do something... Hollis whispers"Anything...
Ah, had he said that aloud? Wait, silly question - of course he had. Beaver switched back to glance at Damascus but if she heard the girl's whispered repetition of her made-up-on-the-spot nickname she didn't show it and seemed to be suspiciously pre-occupied with looking as harmless as possible while nodding vigorously and saying, nearly singsong "yes, yes of course our teacher will be happy to let you stay~!"
The looking harmless was not entirely difficult with her nearly five foot height. If one counted her hair antennae.
The singsong part could have used some serious work.
"She's a friend," Beaver replied back. He felt mildly inconvenienced by the fact that while his joke was said in jest, it was true to a degree - he'd seen Damascus punt a mugger so hard that he'd literally fell out of his clothes during the fall. "Ah, uh, don't worry. She's not scary when you get to know her, really."
Damascus heard that one. Cold sweat broke out on the nape of his neck despite the fact it was only a bit past noon and in the midst of a blazing summer weather.
"Errr, I'm Beaver," he quickly said, introducing himself with as much aplomb as he could muster under these somewhat convoluted circumstances. "And those are weres, unless I miss my mark. Rare to see that one so open about it..."
"Ah! Um! I guess we'll see you later?" Beaver said, at a loss. Damascus, apparently believing that Beaver was wholly responsible for scaring off the nice, normal girl stepped on the instep of his shin slightly harder than was absolutely necessary and chased after her-
"Wait, wait - you can come with us!"
