Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A memory had popped into the skeleton’s head, the skeleton known as Saer C. Crow. It was one that made him think, think long, think hard, and think wise. Thinking mostly about an old friend. One he wanted to beckon forth. And he thought of a good way to do it, a good, dangerous way. Sometime within the last week he had made his way to the City of Lanterns, Balefire. A place of monsters, mostly, but monsters who usually knew something.

It didn’t matter where he started work on his theory, where he started beckoning to a friend he had in life. Whatever he had been in life, he did not tell a soul, and his bones were hidden by full cloth and a shriveled pumpkin which perhaps looked most horrific when the straw in his skull ignited that caused an eerie glow. Perhaps the only one who truly could recall what he had been in life was the one he wanted to meet, her word was always good, and she knew had known what to do and when as far as Saer was concerned, perhaps if any from his life were alive, she was the only one he would dare to trust.

Several beings ran from a tavern, well-lit as it light spilled onto the ground along with a few pints of blood which sprayed on any walking by the broken glass. Saer has simply come to torture, not break things, that was the patrons fault, well, the ones who were there when he arrived, though he treated newcomers just the same.

The tall lanky skeleton held a drow with pitch black eyes with his left hand, claws impaled well into its back, not hurting anything vital, the drow would live, unless the skeleton decided to rip his long black magical claws up and through his lungs.

“Now… it is your turn.” He said sadistically as he tapped on the drow’s head with a right hand filled with black claws, none doing more than light scratches on it's dark head. He had allowed other s to leave, just in case word of some undead monster ripping apart a tavern would interest his friend.

“Where is she? And don’t give me that sob about not knowing who I’m talking about, I’ve said it enough already and if you make me repeat it, well… there are other patrons, you’ll just become dispensable like the others I asked before you.” No sound of wavering, he wasn’t lying, he would kill the drow unless Alice showed up and said otherwise, after all, it wasn’t her fault he was dead. No, he had somebody else to blame for that, or rather, thank… but for blame for their betrayal.

The sound of a door opening was heard, almost like the sound itself became louder then it normaly would have been. In the open door stood a tall woman dressed in a white cloak, her long hair was falling down around the shoulders like a beautiful waterfall and it was also possible to notice a red velvet dress under the cloak, along with a perfect body. A small boy was hidding inside of her cloak and he was holding her palen hand, he did not look old...maybe around four years of age. His hair was short, messy and...green. Of the typical elvish color that was most commonly seen among the...elves.

Alice slowly walked into the tavern and her golden eyes looked from side to side as she scanned the area, they stopped at the skeleton with the drow for a few seconds. She examined him curiously. "I have heard that someone in town was...looking for me" she commented and her voice was soft...almost like one would think of honey when you listened to it, a beautiful sound. "and it seems like...you are willing to go far to find me to....I am flattered" she added when she saw what the undead was doing to the drow, it was true...not often a man was doing this much to meet with her. It had just been pure luck she was in town to get new clothes for her son.

Saer looked back, the blackness in his eyes hidden behind the shriveled pumpkin mask which had become so like leather in texture and aesthetics had quickly been replaced with the eerie orange glow of a flame burning from within his hidden skull. To any, it would simply look like glowing orange eyes. He examined the newcomer, and if he could smile, he would have, though technically he already was, permanently affixed with the grim smile of his skull behind the horrific mask he wore to hide it, to hide his undeath. As far as he cared the world to know, he was still alive, though he didn’t care if his secret was found.

She had finally arrived, the Dark Lady herself! And, with something small and green-haired beside her. Since when had she been a mother? Saer had truly missed much in his time of death.

“Lady Alice Winters!” He exclaimed joyfully, turning his gaze quickly back to the drow, pondering the presence of the child, perhaps it would be in bad taste to kill in front of one so young.

“You get to live today, consider yourself lucky. Now begone, I have an important person to tend to.” He mused, the magical claws dissipating from his leather-covered fingertips as the drow gave a sigh of relief before the skeletal being tossed him away to the side and stood up straight, hunched slightly so his head did not hit the ceiling. He was taller than the room was, but not by much.

He looked at his old friend and the green-haired child once more before bowing with a gentlemanly respect. He turned and cleared a table from the unconscious body that was resting on top of it, pulling a few chair to the table, one close to another so the child would have a place to rest as well.

“Please, Alice, sit.” He said, gesturing to the table with a truly happy tone before sitting himself down, long thin leather-covered legs extending outwards.

“Do you remember me? We used to be friends of sort, before I lost contact.” He wanted to see if it would take her a while to figure out that he was a skeleton, and if she could remember him, after all, Saer’s voice hadn’t changed in death.

Alice raised one of her eyebrows as the undead started to talk, that voice was slightly familiar. But she did not remember knowing any undeads that was this tall, or maybe...no could it be him? Well that was a twist to the story of sorts. She watched the Drow when he ran off and then her golden eyes returned to Saer, she examined him with a small hint of curiosity.

The dark lady slowly followed the man to the table and casually picked up her sin and sat him down in one of the chairs Saer moved closer to each other. She gave him a small stroke on the cheek and whispered something on elf into his ear. The kid nodded and smiled a little at his mother before he curiously looked to the very tall man. Alice then slowly sat down herself and rested her eyes on the old friend for a few moments, she waited for him to speak, still not sure why she did remember him so clearly.

"Hmm...yes I think I remember you, Saer is it not?" she asked slowly and tilted her head a little to the left, then she grinned. "But as I recall you where still alive the last time I saw you, seems like times changes and all my old friends becomes undeads. It was the same with Yaksha to, what a world we live in" she chuckled a little after saying this.

“Ah, so you do remember me.” Saer laughed as if he had just accomplished a worth-while goal. And as far as he was concerned, it was a very worth-while one. Torturing came naturally to him, as easy as breathing did to the living.

“I honestly thought it would take you a minute more to figure out I was dead, though. Ah, if only this mask could curl into an appropriate smile. And I suppose something is behind the most twisted ones coming from their deaths, huh? And what of this?” He asked, waving his arm to the kid but stopping his hand halfway across the table, he didn’t want to frighten the child, “When did you lay claim to maternal nature, Alice?” He laughed again, it was a true pleasure to catch up with an old friend, one from life.

“I seem to have missed much in my untimely absence. And I believe the people who burned away my flesh to end me shouted something along the lines of, ‘what a world would allow such a monster to have power over us? And what a world would keep us under his thumb? And what a world would allow him to live for this long?’ Ah, I wonder how many undead actually feel a bit better after dying. It seems to have come with a few new pleasant surprised upon my re-awakening. “ Saer knew how to word things to have a sort of elegant air about them, to give the feeling that he was at least one’s mental superior, if not already superior in height. One of very few beings he would ever consider his equal, let alone, very possibly, his superior was Alice. She, in Saer’s eyes, was a great person. Holding a regal air about her constantly, she was superior to him for sure.

Alice smirked a little and removed a few strands of hair from her face, she thought about his words for a moment. "I knew you where undead the moment I walked in thought the door my dear, I can detect undeads before I see them. Call it a useful spell for an archmage, yes I am an archmage now" she giggled a little and lowered the hand to her lap, she looked to her son and the little boy seemed a little unsure what to do and he looked up at her. Alice smiled a little and nodded. "It's okay sweetie, he is not going to hurt you. He is an old friend...be nice now and tell him your name"

The little boy swallowed and then he slowly stood up and bowed a little in a polite way to the undead. "Nice to meet you sir, I am Azrael..." he said and the voice was low, but it was still possible to hear him. At a closer look the little boy was dressed in a pair of cute shorts...a blue shirt and a pair of nice expensive looking boots. It was clear that the mother did not hold back to give her boy anything that was...worth much gold. Azrael slowly sat back down on his chair and swallowed a little, Alice slowly gave him a pat on the head to show that she was proud of him. "Me? Well It just happened in a way, I meet this charming assassin and one thing lead to another and here I am with a little prince. Is he not charming? He is going to become an assassin you know, I am paying a close friend to show the ropes and be his teacher. A good assassin can always earn his living"

The sorceress then focused to listen to what the man talked about and she tilted her head a little to the left. "My people can be so easy to flatter these days" she commented and laughed a little. "But it is nice to see you after such a long time, even if you have changed a little since then. I remember you as a very handsome man in those days." she winked a little and then she sighed softly. "you think there are any workers around? I think Azrael could use some food"

“Archmage, my, my, I truly have missed much in my absence.” He chuckled warmly. He watched as Alice persuader her son to introduce himself, and he did so quietly, though with good manners none the less. A truly good thing around the type of society they were a part of, the dark yet regal.

“My, such well-placed manners. Though, with a week I could have him demanding respect with the best of us.” He chuckled, a serious offer if the boy’s mother actually agreed, though if Saer had breath he wouldn’t hold it. Of course, he would protect the son well past the limit of his abilities for a good friend. He listened as Alice told him of her motherhood, well, how it happened and what her plans for her green-haired child were, anyways.

“Ah, yes. Assassination teaches many good skills, especially if he ends up following his mother’s path into regality, especially if he decides to lord over a group of lesser assassins.” He said this light-heartedly before leaning a bit closer to the child, “Though, if you ever see a man in a very weird red and black outfit, stay clear, he’s mad beyond reasoning.” Saer chuckled softly as he sat back up in his seat and listened to more of Alice’s words.

“Ah, my looks have faded into smoke, perhaps a shame, though it is good to see your beauty might never wane. Though, I suppose the chances for a bag of bones like me has little to no chance of having a wonder as yourself?” He chuckled before looking around for the wait staff.

“The bloodshed is clear! Come get young Azrael something suitable to eat!” He called out, a disgruntled demon walking in and tossing a cigarette out the shattered window, grumbling as he went into the back room to fetch the child some food. Fights, especially ones with heavy bloodshed, weren’t very uncommon in Balefire, after all.

“My, such well-placed manners. Though, with a week I could have him demanding respect with the best of us.”

Alice examined him carefully when he said this, then she smiled a little. "Oh is that so now? well do tell what you had in mind dear? I am all ears" she commented, since the words did capture her interest. She wanted her son to become a powerful young man, but she was not in a rush and knew he could become powerful with some pointers and good teachers. Maybe Saer could be one of them to guide her son into the right path? or the....more darker path one could say.

"I already know he will become powerful, I have seen it happen. That was how I knew it was going to be a son long before he was even born, I knew from the moment I became pregnant with Aurons child that...he was going to be powerful" she explained slowly and winked a little towards the man, it was interesting.

---

Azrael blinked a little when the man talked to him, he did not seem to understand what the man talked about. But he did not want to seem rude so he nodded in a polite way. "Yes sir, I will try to stay away from such a man. Who is that?" he asked the question after a small pause.

he looked around when they talked about food and he did seem like he could use something to eat. It did not take long before they came with a bowl filled with nice hot stew and the boy thanked them before he quickly started to eat.

“Oh, very well. You seem to have been sure to teach him very fine manners, which are always a good thing, especially when dealing with the lesser people, though too much polite nature and people began to try and take advantage of you, unless there is a steady course showcasing ability, or somebody protecting him. I’ve already gathered a small group of inconsequential followers since my return to the world. He could order them while under my protection, at your will of course.” Saer motioned as he explained his intention. He thought it best to make an ally of a future power in this world at a young age, especially that which was the son of an old friend.

“And, there is…” Saer paused a moment as he watched to make sure the demon left the room before leaning across the table, “A group I am working to grow, one I have been attempting to work on, though so far they are stingy or poor. Heh, already I’m breaking my first rule, but for a friend I feel it worth the risk. I’m calling the group the Secret Sadist Society, essentially a collection of beings who enjoy the slow and noisy endings of others. Perhaps me showing respect for young Azrael would even make those monsters stop and think around him.” Saer sat back up in his chair, having further explained an intended situation which he hoped would at least be a well consideration from Alice for her son at a later age.

“And on an unrelated note, I suspect Yaksha for my questionably timely demise. After all, it is rather difficult to completely understand what mad schemes run through his skull at any given time... at least from when I remember him, perhaps if I see him I could try asking, he might even answer.” He chukled before at last responding to Azrael.

“Oh, apologies, I forgot to answer you. He is… a crazy version of what your mother wants you to be, a mad sword-for-hire I think may be an undead, though he is definitely not human for what he can survive. Calls himself Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth, and kept seeming to shout at something that wasn't there.” Saer tapped the table as he spoke, sort of metaphorically driving the point.

Alice casually examined her own hand as the man was talking, she gave him a small glance from time to time to show that she still listened. Then she smiled in a slightly amused way at his words about the protection and the little group he was going to start.

"Well that is an interesting offer your making, maybe I will take you up on that?" she commented slowly and lowered her hand to return the ful attention to Saer. "Oh dear me, the SSS for short I imagine? Well that sounds messy" she commented and laughed softly before she continued. "Interesting idea, but I do not think it is anything for me. I am after all already in a guild. Second in command for the demon guild as it happens" she casually placed one of her slender legs over the other.

The sorceress sighed a little when Saer talked about Yaksha, she shook her head and did not reply until a few moments later. "Yaksha is never a threat to me, he is and have always been an arrogant fool. I also happened to give birth to his first born when we where both living in the abyss. I thought the boy died, but it seems like he survived and is now in Imythess as we speak." she tapped one fingers against the surface of the table for a few seconds in a thoughtful way. "I do not think it is possible to talk with Yaksha, he is rude...and not to mention...illmannered."

Azrael swallowed a little at the words and the boy did not seem to like the thought of such a person all to much. "He does not sound all to nice, I will remember to stay away from him" he said slowly and then returned to eating from his stew. He seemed to enjoy the food much.

“Rude and ill-mannered…” Saer mused thoughtfully as he rapped his knuckled against the table, a tick that came from the time he was a young child, a show of him plotting something interesting, something dark an amusing which usually would lead to the discomfort of whoever was unfortunate enough to be the target of his plot. Again, if it were possible for the mask he wore to wrap up into a fine sinister smile, it would, but it remained expressionless as the orange glow of his eyes seemed to flare a bit brighter, the scenario thought out.

“Rude, ill-mannered, the thought…” He said with a light chuckle mixed in, “Perhaps locating and sending the black and red mercenary after Yaksha with a message could prove interesting, pay him to attack the being. One mad being to deal with another would definitely be a sight to see.” He chuckled light once more; his fingers finally stopped their rapping as the hand simply rested on the wooden table.

“After all, who better to listen to than somebody who would openly admit to being paid to randomly attack him with no real word of warning?” He laughed at his own words before looking around the room a tad cautiously. The demon tender had not returned from his smoking break for some time, and no new patrons entered, something was off.

“Did you come here with merely young Azrael? Because if those… excited people that have been blocking traffic are of any indication, there may be a slight problem.” He said a bit uninterested. It was very difficult to kill the undead, and Alice had already been fairly powerful from the last time he had met her, she could probably deal with the nuisances with ease, or see Saer to dealing with the annoying gathering. He never even tried to claim to being one who would speak for her thoughts, he left analyzing her to other minds.

Alice laughed at his words, it was a amused sound and she seemed very....much like she enjoyed the thought. "Well that is a very interesting idea, if he can...just create a little irritation to Yaksha it wont be a problem at all. We would have won just from that." she commented with a gentle voice and shifted a little on her seat, then she sighed.

"So you happen to know how to contact Deadpool? I think I remember him, he was payed to try and kill me, but of course he had to change his mind. I might not be able to kill him, but sending him to another dimension where he will be stuck forever it not a very nice thought either." she chuckled lowly and ran one hand thought her own hair, it was fun to think back on things. "But let's see if we can give this a try and capture his attention"

The sorceress slowly glanced to the window and the people outside, she grinned a little and slowly looked to the undead again. "Yes I just came here with Azrael, but do not worry...someone as perfect as me will always be followed by people longing for my beauty" she replied. It was not uncommon that people found her angelicly beautiful, there was nothing wrong with her at all...nothing.

“Oh, your beauty is definatley something that no scribe nor poet nor poet could completely capture.” He chuckled, leaning casually in the chair as he waved through the broken window at a few of the people outside, though they did not seem like they had gathered to worship at her feet just to catch a glimpse of the Dark Lady.

“Hmm, I fear that the crowd may be a mixture of people come to destroy me and possibly people trying to kill you like Deadpool. If he happens to be anywhere close to Balefire, I’m sure it would turn into a matter of killing two birds with a single stone. The first being the—“ Saer was interrupted by a rock being thrown at his head, and successfully hitting him. He was glad he couldn’t feel anything anymore, otherwise that would be quite uncomfortable as well as annoying, “…Charming beings being brought to a swift end with quick payment, the second being the utter discomfort of Yaksha…” Another rock was thrown through the window, apparently they were not too sure as to whether or not they should attempt going in.

“Would you like to deal with them, Alice, or shall I?” He offered with a limp wave of his wrist, a silent uttering came from behind his horrific mask as black claws sprouting from his fingertips, “Or shall we wait and see if the mad-man is anywhere near the vicinity and see about paying him to, for an appropriate term when speaking of him as far as I call tell, whack, them repeatedly with his blades?” Saer was for any of the three ideas, the first could show him any new abilities Alice picked up on her way to becoming an Archmage, the second allowed him to simply walk out there and become an undead whirlwind of blood and darkness, and the third would be waiting to see if luck had mercy for the wicked.

Alice nodded a little, his words as nice...but she already knew that all to well. It was after all true and who could be more perfect then she was? She was a goddess of perfection in body and mind, no one was better then her. "Well let them try if they want, I fear no creature in this world or any other. My powers are more then enough to teach these...low-life a lesson if needed" after all being an archmage was not just a nice name, Alice was a master at magic and did never try to hide that fact to anyone she meet.

The dark lady raised one eyebrow when the first rock came flying and hit the old friend, she examined him for a few seconds and then her golden eyes looked towards the window at the people. She returned the focus to Saer when the man talked, she looked at his claws. "To messy, let me handle this" she slowly raised her hand and made a few gestures with her fingers, the eyes focused to a lantern one of the people outside was holding.

A buzzing sound was heard and the second later energy began to gather around that lantern creating a growing cloud of darkness. It did not take more then five seconds before people started to scream outside, many of them quickly tried to get away when the chilling feeling of the magic was creeping onto them. It was not often Alice got to use black storm..but it was a nice spell at a time like this, mainly because it was one of the most destructive once she had in store.

The Merc with a Mouth strolled down the street of the dark and shady city triumphantly with a good sized bag of money. A vampire paid him to kill another vampre, rival gang leader or something like that, the only thing he really paid attention to was, Kill Orias, rival gang-leader, end him, big pay-out. The happy look was obvious on his mask, as he strolled down, the two katana rightfully in their place on his back and about to become even shinier, there was a master blacksmith around here somewhere who could make badass swords, and Wade was hankering to get him some fine cutting tools!

A crowd had gathered outside of a small tavern, torches, pitchforks, the whole angry mob gig, and it brought an interested glimmer to the Merc’s eye as he tried to look inside, only seeing some freakishly tall… thing sitting at a table and gesturing to somebody Wade couldn’t really see, after all, there was only a window broken, all he could see was a hand that wasn’t the freakishly tall guy’s resting on the table.

“So, what’s the angry mob for? Chasing out another Weenie-stein?” Wade mused openly, a drow who looked like he’d been through hell turned to him, a few scratches on his forehead. “There’s a freak in there who’s gonna die!” He said, his words dripping with venom and Deadpool giving a hardy thumbs-up to the answer as he turned around, picked up a rock, tossed it in the air a few times to make sure it was a good one for throwing, and then chucked it through the window, hitting the freak with the brown stitched leather-y mask in the face.

“Bulls-eye!” He cheered happily, high-fiving the drow. Then things got a lot less happy. One of the torches a mob-person was carrying started turning black, then an entire cloud spread out from it, seeming to freeze just about everything, which in turn caused panic, which then made somebody knock the bag of money right out if Wade’s hand. He would have reached down to search for it, but it felt like it was dropping well below freezing, he just ran forward as fast as he could, then tripped through the window, and flopped over on the floor, now stuck in the same room with the guy he threw a rock at, hoping to Ninjacat he didn’t know that Wade threw the rock; but now he could see the other person, and a familiar one at that.

“Hey, you’re Alice, the whole Darkness of Perfection thing! Hills of Mist, Oh-Nine, go team!” He exclaimed, casually ripping a chunk of glass from his stomach and tossing it to the floor and standing up. “How’ve you been? “ It didn’t take him long to figure out she was probably the one who made that weird cloud thing appear, which also meant the he didn’t want to get on her bad side, or within a mile radius. Maybe as long as she knew he didn’t throw the rock everything was fine and he wouldn’t even have to apologize for the rock.
