Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

What was it that drove the small golden dragon to the moonlight? To bask in the soft, luminescent glow which brought about such a large amount of tales? There were stories of horror, stories of wonder, and stories of myth, of people who had long since passed, believed to have gone to become stars in the night sky. However, the rare golden being knew some secrets of the moonlight, things that apprentice wizards took years to learn. It was her secret which she shared with who she trusted, whom she believed, through all her own personal views put aside, were pure and honest enough to show.

She saw it as a grand luxury, knowing something others did not. There was plenty of things she did not know of Chaon, of it’s secrets and most of its tales. Though, she truly enjoyed ones such that were considered classic fairy tales, told from generation to generation, a clever way to keep dreams alive in children and adults alike.

She thought of the tales she heard from travelers, from people who rescued her, and people who tried to take her against her will. She twisted and glided through the air with the grace of the wind beneath her wings, a wide smile brought to her yellow reptilian mouth as she began to sing a tune of wonder.

As most songs it was accompanied with a source, a beginning she believed to be behind her, one which turned to be an interesting tale, of one she didn’t believe would find her. And she would learn that night, that no meetings with any people are left to one per lifetime. Under the soft moon’s glow, the tale’s main character, who’s song she hummed so gracefully, would meet up with her, a new tale to be told for generations to come, and old memories stirred in a variety of emotions.

Chris was not sure what made him leave the cave that evening, not that it was uncommon since the young boy often did like to take a walk around norwood in the moonlight. It gave him some time to think without having to worry about bandits and other people that could do him harm.

He had followed the small river outside of the cave downwards in the area of the lake, a little now and then he kicked a small rock with his bare foot and sent it flying into the flowing water of the river, creating waves and circles. His tail moved slowly from side to side and the ears twitched a little as he captured the sounds of the life in the forest, the running rabbit or the sound of a jumping fish.

Chris stopped as a low sounds reached his ears, it was not easy to hear at first even with his good hearing. The weretiger was still and listened in silence, his green eyes looked around in a try to find the source of the sound. It sounded like someone singing? That melody, it was familiar to Chris and yet he was not sure where he had ever heard it before. It was like something pushed to get out from inside of his mind, a lost memory? Quickly the boy started to run forward as he followed the sound of the humming melody.

The boy came out a large clearing in the forest not far from the river, his eyes scanned the surrondings for a moment. But he saw nothing until he glanced to the sky, something moved up there. It was very small and Chris was not even sure what it was from here, neither was he sure if he should call out to it or wave or something.

Suddenly he felt that one of his feet dissappeared down into a small hole in the ground, yeah...this was the field the rabbits lived at! Or this was the thought that passed the boys mind before he feelt forward onto the ground with a small catlike yelp. Slowly he sat up on his knees and the tail started to move a little like a whip...something it did when he was hurt. "Oww...that hurt" he said to himself and brushed one hand to the nose to make sure it was okay. The thoughts of the song was gone for the moment, it changed place with the thoughts of it hurts in my knees kind of thoughts.

The humming of the small golden dragon’s song vanished at the sound of a yelp and a voice. A nostalgic feeling came upon her mind as she glided through the air with such ease and nimble movement. With a tilt of her body she turned to where she believed the sound to have come from, looking down towards the ground where most beings dwelled. The sound seemed to her like that of a cat with a rough child, a sharp yelping sort before escaping whatever it is that caused pain.

Her small eyes gazed down upon the land, and there was a being who seemed young, younger than most who would travel the woods at night, on the ground. The clearing was home to rabbits who liked to make their homes beneath the grass, perhaps if she knew somebody was near she would have warned of such a thing, or perhaps not since the thought already made her giggle a bit.

With a single beat of her golden wings she glided around, descending through the air to approach the boy with the cat-like ears, the feeling of nostalgia still within her mind, a memory trying to resurface before she could meet this person. It wasn’t a bad feeling; it was one of pleasant familiarity.

Her small clawed feet landed nimbly on the ground a yard from the boy as her wings tucked and her tail whipped once in joy of a new friend.

“Careful, there are rabbits beneath who might not like it if you clog up their home.” She said gleefully with a warm smile on her petite lizard-like face. It was not often she met people when the moon was so full in the middle of the woods, there were too many tales which drove people further from the trees on such nights.

Chris rubbed the knees as he moved to a sitting position in the grass, he examined the leg but it did not seem to be all to hurt. When he came a little lower down he felt a sting of pain shot out from his ankle up the leg, it seemed like he had strained the ankle when the foot got stuck in the rabbit hole. Perfect, just what he not needed at a day like this. "Oh no...this is not good" he whispered to himself and tried to see how bad the strain was. Sometimes he could be such a baby!

“Careful, there are rabbits beneath who might not like it if you clog up their home.”

The young weretiger had been entierly focused on his own leg that he did not notice that the singing stopped, nor that the small golden dragon moved down and landed on the field just a yard away from him.

But of course he noticed when he heard the sound of the voice, normaly he would not have taken it to hard. But since his ankle was strained he would have little chance to run away if it was a bandit. This made the reaction a lot more scared looking then he would have wanted it to be, he quickly turned towards the sound and revealed his sharp feline fangs in a catlike grin.

The eyes focused on the creature that had been talking, first he did not see what it was. But the scared look on his face slowly dissappeared when he got a better look as to what it was. A dragon? It was a very small dragon but yet a dragon. Chris looked at it without a word, he blinked and closed his mouth to hide the fangs again. "Yeah, I know they live here. I was just...and the song...and the rabbits...and then it was became a mess" he began to explaine with small gestures of the hands towards the rabbit hole and then to the sky and to the field.

"I am not making a very good first impression on you am I?" he asked after a few seconds on complete silence. The dragon did seem friendly enough, in fact for some reason it feelt like this entier event was familiar. Like it had happened to him sometime before? But he had never meet a dragon before had he? Oh he was not sure.

June took a step back, her early bit of sprouting wisdom giving her enough distance in case the stories of horrible creatures lurking were true. Though, it didn’t last long, quickly as she was taken back did she realize he was acting out of confusion and fear, almost like any animal would do. A hissing perhaps seeded to distract whatever thing may want to harm the boy while giving him a chance to escape. It didn’t matter. Though his teeth did seem to be rather sharp, and while June resumed her previous position, she was also hoping he wouldn’t want to make a rare delicacy from her.

“Er, uhm… shiny teeth, but you wouldn’t want to eat me, I’m all scale and bones, hardly enough meat to want to eat me… Right? Please don’t eat me…” She said, her voice trailing off in case it was more than just fear and he was planning to eat her.

Upon a moment the boy closed his mouth and gave a confused look at what just happened, seeming to be at a loss for words before forming a fully coherent sentence.

The words, his voice, his face. The feeling of nostalgia was beginning to overwhelm the small golden dragon’s mind, she knew him, she knew she did! With a moment of silence she looked at him, his ears, his eyes, his fangs. Suddenly the feeling of nostalgia erupted with full force, she did know him!

“No, not a very good first impression…” She said, her small eyes wide as they could be, her reptilian mouth slightly ajar in surprise. It was like looking at a ghost, almost. The song and the tale, the main character of which was sitting before her, “Then again… this isn’t our first impressions…” She spoke softly but where he should be able to hear her.

“You… We’ve met, and you’ve grown!” She took a moment before speaking again searching for the right words, this was an amazing reunion! “You were young back then, but you should remember me, it wasn’t that long ago...! Or, maybe it was... I'm not good with counting years, how old are you?”

“Er, uhm… shiny teeth, but you wouldn’t want to eat me, I’m all scale and bones, hardly enough meat to want to eat me… Right? Please don’t eat me…”

Chris blinked, he was not really sure what he could say to this. In all honesty he had never been thinking to eat this dragon. But he was proud of his teeth, so that made him feel good. "Why would I want to eat you when I have a field of rabbits right here?" he asked and gestured to the field. "and mama alwats did tell me to never eat food that is talking, or uhm...things that is talking. I did not mean your food just becayse"

Chris stopped when it was clear he could not talk himself out of this one. "I don't eat food...I mean dragons...I mean...you...something. You make me confused"

“No, not a very good first impression…”“Then again… this isn’t our first impressions…”

Chris looked at June, he was really confused now. This was not the first time they meet? It was true that it feel familiar, but he could not remember it at all. He just would make more fool of himself then he already had if he tried to say anything, so for now the young weretiger said nothing and just listened. A little now and then he shifted on the ground to try and fine a more comfortable position that would not hurt his ankle.

“You… We’ve met, and you’ve grown!”“You were young back then, but you should remember me, it wasn’t that long ago...! Or, maybe it was... I'm not good with counting years, how old are you?”

Chris bit himself in the lip and tried to remember, he searched inside of his mind...but he did not remember any dragons. "I do not remember you...I mean" he sighed and was not sure what to say more. But then a question came that he could reply to. "I'm 14" he replied. He was young back then? Most people still called him young...even kid as it was now. "I'm sorry...but I do not remember much about my past."

June was a bit surprised at the response of her old friend. How could anybody forget her? She had a charming enough personality, or so she had been told. Besides, there weren’t exactly many draconic beings her age that were as small as she was… or any! She opened her mouth, about to speak before closing it and thinking about how he worded what he said. She had been around long enough to know what different kinds of speech patterns there were, though she usually didn’t notice.

“Well, I suppose since we were friends a few years ago, it wouldn’t be too hard to be friends again!” She mused with a smile as she took back to the air, gliding in circles. “Oh, maybe I could help you remember things! Or tell you the story of how we met! I made a song for it, I was humming it before you showed up!” Even if he didn’t remember her, even if he couldn’t, June was a nice person, she could make friends with him again, and maybe this time she wouldn’t lose track of him!

“Your parents would be so happy to see you again, if only I knew where they were. They were nice people! Far as I could tell, you came from a family of nice people; then again I don’t usually pay much attention to bad things.” Again she landed nimbly on the ground, her small golden frame almost glittering a bit in the moonlight.

Now that she had remembered him, the memories came back, fragmented and scattered through their time together. Oh, but it was wonderful, and to see him again was even better! It had been several years, he was young when he went missing but she recognized him for sure, this was definitely him.

“Well, I suppose since we were friends a few years ago, it wouldn’t be too hard to be friends again!”“Oh, maybe I could help you remember things! Or tell you the story of how we met! I made a song for it, I was humming it before you showed up!”

Chris listened to what the little dragon said, he tried to find something to say but never got the right moment. Of course he did not want to interupt her singing either, that would have been both rude and bad. "I am not sure I want to remember. To remember what I lost sounds like it would be painful, mom and dad is gone and nothing is going to bring them back again."

The weretiger sighed deeply and looked down at the grass, but than again why did he said that? He did want to remember things about his past. His eyes returned to the dragon, he bit his lip for a moment and then he took a very deep breath of air. "I'm sorry If I sounded rude, I would like to know how I meet you even if I do not remember it."

“Your parents would be so happy to see you again, if only I knew where they were. They were nice people! Far as I could tell, you came from a family of nice people; then again I don’t usually pay much attention to bad things.”

His hand grasped the grass when she said this, he got a rather pained look on his face. He closed his eyes and tried his best not to cry, why did someone have to remind him about his parents. "I do not even remember what they look like." he had pictured them a few times, but never had he been sure that any of the things he pictured was real.

Sure he had found a few things from his past, like the teddy bear called Lezlo, the hollowed tree that he seemed to have made with his brothers or something. Moms card for telling future and that cottage in the woods. But now something came to his mind, a question that he had never been able to ask anyone before. "why did they leave me?" he asked and the voice was in a mix of curiosity and fear with a strong shaking hint.

“Leave you?” June said with a bit of surprise, her eyes wide as could be in shock. “No, no! They would never leave you! You had disappeared! Everybody thought you had been abducted again, but nobody saw you taken; there was no way to find you, though everybody looked as hard as they could!” She paused for a moment. She had become a part of that family, as well. She knew them, she knew they couldn’t leave him if they wanted to, “But, perhaps we should try bringing back some older memories first? Maybe then it could make other memories appear!” Her voice was full of hope as she approached her old friend.

“A few years ago, perhaps ten or eleven, you were taken by bandits, the same bandits who had taken me from my sleep a few days earlier.” The memories were extremely clear to her, but the thought of forgetting somebody, forgetting everything seemed sad to her. She shook the thoughts from her head, it was never a good thing to stop right at the beginning of a story, “Sorry,” she apologized with a wry smile, “Anyways, you were a small child, or I suppose kitten in your case.” She giggled a bit now, her mind wandering a bit to some of his antics.

“You were completely afraid, and right next to my cage, which made it rather hard to sleep. First I was upset that you were upset and making sure everybody knew, but then I had an idea, and began to sing a hero’s tale for you. It seemed to make you happy then, you stopped crying at least. Though it was still hard to get you to sleep.” The sense of nostalgia had completely gone, these were memories, tales of another, and she couldn’t help but wonder if even though he had lost his memories, had he turned out to be a hero like the tales?

Chris was feeling even more confused when the girl said this, dissappeared? Had he dissappeared and they had tried to find him? Abducted....again? The familiar flashes from the time before came to his mind, he remembered the cage he was stuffed inside. The voices that talked about making good cash for him at the black market, telling him to be good and he would most likely get a nice owner.

The young boy closed his eyes and tried to push the memories away, it was painful to remember. The small walls closing in on him, no it was so small. He gasped and opened his eyes, his gaze quickly looked around and then he slowly calmed down a little. Chris looked to June when she talked about brining back some memories, a part of him wanted to say NOOO, but another part wanted to say yes. In this case he did not give any replies. But after a small moment of hesitation he nodded to show that he wanted to say yes.

Chris left for the dragon to talk, he just listened and tried to remember what she explained. He nodded when she mentioned the bandits, yes he had started to remember the event with the cage. "When I was out on the field training my hunting" he added to her words, he was not sure why but he was sure that was what he had been doing the day the bandits came. But why had not his family been there with him then? No that he could not remember, and he guessed that this dragon did not know anything about that either. The weretiger cub nodded a little when she said she was sorry, it was nothing wrong with having the mind slip away a little now and then.

As the story was being told he started to think, he remembered the sound of bandits. He could remember the dark cage, the small dark cage that had locked him inside of. Why did he not remember June? The more he thought about it the more he started to remember, not the dragon exactly. But the song, he remembered the song. "The song, from before when you where flying. It was that song was it not?" he asked slowly and looked at the little dragon. "I remember it, I was so afraid...they where going to sell me. I was never going to see mama again, big bro saved me. He came.....he had followed the bandits."

Chris talked in a distant manner. He reached out and made a gesture in the air in front of himself. "I remember his voice when he whispered to me, he was holding me...telling me it was okay. I was safe, how his fur comforted me then, I think....I had not been sleeping for days." It had been true, the boy never sleept while he was captured. Even when he was close to drop every little sound would make him awake right away, his body had been tensed all the time and the heart beating like crazy. This event of his life started to become less of a blurr and more clear then before.

June smiled as her old friend spoke, he was remembering things, she was hoping he would if he heard the tale. “He was definitely nice; after all, he took the time to help free me, after you were comfortably rested. Against my better liking, I bit one of the bandits to help you two escape, oddly enough he tasted like pork.” She giggled at the thought, the memory. The thought she could help him remember something about his past, the fact that she was, It felt good to do something to help somebody, after all, her small stature usually couldn’t help many people.

“And then I bit another one which did not taste like anything pleasant at all.” She giggled again, biting wasn’t a natural instinct for her, never was. “After a path was clear, your brother just kept running with you in his arms to escape the bandits, I helped him a bit, since these woods are my home until I can find somebody to spoil me again, like your family did. After all that happened, I followed you two home like a stray puppy, a stray, scaly, talking puppy… with wings!” She stretched her wings out with the last part, almost like a small visual representation, before giggling again.

“To be perfectly honest, I haven’t really gotten to be spoiled as I was when with you and your family, I’ve just been gliding around the trees, meeting interesting people, being kidnapped by bandits and then escaping their buffoonish clutches.” She closed her wings again and began to wonder how many people she had met, how many had saved her and she had befriended? She shook her head clear of the thoughts again, “Oh, I keep forgetting that I’m trying to help you recover your past. Though, real quick, do you believe I could be a bard? It seems like it would be so nice to present songs to people.” She smiled softly as she spoke, her voice nice and calm. Even if he didn’t remember her very well, or his past, he didn’t seem that much different, just… older... and bigger.

Christofer listened to the story in silence, he had done his best to make himself comfortable in the grass with the strained ankle. He noticed that if he placed the damaged leg over the good one it did not work at much as before. He frowned a little when she said the bandits tasted like pork, he had biten a few of them and they never tasted like pork. Maybe it had something to do with June being a dragon? They where weird creatures after all, so nothing wrong with that.

He did start to remember things now, of course he did not remember anything of what happened during the real escape since he had fallen asleep so quickly after his brother saved him. But it felt familiar when the dragon told this tale of the past. The young weretigers tail moved from side to side and a little now then it started to go into the shape of a wide 8. "I think I remember that we had some kind of animal at home when I was a kid" he commented, then he blushed a little...it was not very nice to call a dragon a pet. "Sorry" he said, he had not been more then four or five years maybe. So of course he could not know what a dragon was then.

Chris tried to remember more of the dragon in his life, in the family. He was not sure but it was familiar, so very familiar. But he was interupted when June asked her question about the bard thing. He examined her and then he smiled and nodded a little. "Yes I belive you would be a very good bard." he replied, then he made a small pause before he continued to talk. "What is your name by the way?" he asked lowly. He just could not remember her name.

“Oh, I forgot, you said you couldn’t remember your past very well…” June’s scaly cheeks took on an orange tint as she blushed, realizing that she was getting ahead of herself. “My name is June; at least, that’s what I’ve been called as long as I’ve been in this world. And yours is Christofer, of course, you may already know that, I suppose.” She smiled softly as she spoke, her slightly orange-tinted cheeks returning back to their normal golden coloring.

“And, it’s okay if you want to refer to me as a pet, after all, I don’t mind. In fact, I considered myself your pet, as well as your friend. Which is why I left when you disappeared, mainly to try and find you, but after a few years it grew harder to keep searching.” She dropped her scaly head in a bit of embarrassment and regret, “and maybe… I could have found you if I hadn’t stopped looking.” It was hard for her to stop looking for her friend, for her owner, and she couldn’t think of any way to rationalize it other than she was simply tiring of no news on his appearance in a location, no information on where he may be, just people turning her away or trying to abduct her.

She felt that same unpleasant sensation in the pit of her stomach as the day she quit her search. It was a hard thing to do back then, and even now, the memory unsettled her. She felt like she had abandoned him herself, as if though she was wrong for quitting the search. She could never figure if her choice was the right one or not.

“Oh, I forgot, you said you couldn’t remember your past very well…”

Chris did not say anything to this, he just listened to her words. Well not that he blamed her for not thinking about it, he could imagine that it was rather confusing for June to find him again after all this time...and he could not remember her? He smiled a little and then he sighed and shrugged slightly.

"Do not worry about it, I have a rather nice life as it is now. Sure I kind of want to know who I really am...but then maybe it will hurt even more to know it all." after all how could he be sure that his family was even alive? Then he would just feel even worse then before he remembered.

“My name is June; at least, that’s what I’ve been called as long as I’ve been in this world. And yours is Christofer, of course, you may already know that, I suppose.”

June? Her name was June? Chris thought about it and had a weird feeling that he would be able to remember the name, yeah it was there in his head. "I think I remember it a little." he gave a little nod when she said his name. "Yes that is my name, but people call me Chris so I am more used to be called that. Besides Chris sounds cuter then Christofer don't you think?" he smiled in a friendly manner now and seemed less confused, the boy always had a very good ability to adapt to different times.

“And, it’s okay if you want to refer to me as a pet, after all, I don’t mind. In fact, I considered myself your pet, as well as your friend. Which is why I left when you disappeared, mainly to try and find you, but after a few years it grew harder to keep searching.”“and maybe… I could have found you if I hadn’t stopped looking.”

Chris did not interupt her when she was talking, he listened to her every word and thought about them as she was done. Then he shook his head slowly. "We can never be sure what might have happened before" he said, making him sound older then he really was. "I do not blame you for not looking for me, you found me now right? I mean you should not be sad about the past when there is so much good here and now" he nodded a little to assure her that it was okay.

“I… I guess your right…” June still couldn’t help but feel that sinking feeling, like her heart was falling into her stomach. The feeling had been lifted a bit because of what Christofer said, but it was hard for her to not feel bad about ceasing her search. He always has seemed to have the warm glow about him which could lessen the sense of misery she ever felt.

She shook her head a bit quickly, trying to shake loose that sense of regret and her feeling that she had let him down. He was utterly right though, perhaps if June had kept looking she wouldn’t have found him until years later if at all.

She couldn’t help but wonder if it was so extremely easy to live in the present since he couldn’t remember his past. Though, surely he had formed a new past, a new series of events. She chuckled softly a bit, wondering if he had been on any exciting adventures.

“Well, I have been spending time talking about the past, but… do you have any tales of adventure? I mean, I don’t know… I mean…” She shook her head, this time trying to figure out even what she was trying to say. “I’ve met a few people with amnesia, and heard stories of others. Do you remember anything before yesterday, or do you remember everything since you… I suppose ‘woke up’ would be appropriate? Or… do you not like talking about that? If you haven’t noticed or remembered by now, I’m quite talkative, I’m sure it could only take me a second to think of another topic.” Her scaly face turned into a small golden smile, her feeling of dread and self-doubt had vanished, no longer a heavy thought on her mind. She was happy to find her old master.
