Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The desert was already hot and it was only about nine in the morning. It was dificutl to get used to the suden change from the cold of night to the heat of the day, but he had done it before in his travels. Kaess continued to move along the road with the caravan. He was wore clothes sutible for the desert environment and wore a large hood to protect his face from the sun. He was lucky that he had some natural resistance to heat as the desendent of a gold dragon, but he was still sweating as he moved. He had been asked to help this group, because bandits and/or demons had been rumored to be attacking cravans along this route. This particularl group traded in spice and other luxury goods. He found that working for this caravan had been a good deal so far, he had good meals, hadn't gotten lost and he could help defeat some evil in this land if bandits or deamons showed up.

He also was heading towards Istan City to see what he could find there. He had heared about a place called The Heart of Fire, which he wanted to travel to in the near future. He hadn't been there so he needed to start searching somewhere.

Regradless he was now with the caravan and he walked in the lead of the group watching the horizon for dangers. There were some other hired gaurds walking around as the cravan kicked up sand and grit as it moved slowly on through the desert. The horizon had a hazy look to it from the sun reflecting off the sand and one did not look directly at the sand if they didn't want to be blinded. They had only been here for a few days, but a few of the inexerpienced people with desert travel had gotten sunstroke already and had to be placed with trade goods to recover under cover of tarps or tents. He hoped there wouldn't be many more like them otherwise it would be alot of work taking care of these people on this trip. It was then that he felt someone aproaching him from behind. He turned his head to see them.....

Nireza was wondering how she had been convinced to accompany the caravan, but she had. She had not been expecting it to get this hot. While the heat was uncomfortable, she was able to take it. Being part wind definitely had its advantages, one of which was keeping the air moving near her skin, giving her some resistance to the heat. She was able to help tend to those who had succumbed to the heat, as well as helping in other ways. She had learned quickly and it was hard to tell that she was new to the desert. She had decided that now wouldn't be the time to try stealing things since it was likely that she'd be suspected, despite her innocent appearance. Better to wait until she was near civilization.

She was now becoming more accustomed to the heat and her typical lighthearted nature was returning. She decided to see if she could get Kaess to jump by surprising him from behind, but he turned around first. You're not supposed to notice me behind you, she thought. She smiled charmingly and said, "How are you? I'm sure I've met you before, but I don't remember exactly where, although I remember a battle."

He looks at Nireza she looked familiar, but he couldn't place it first. "I don't know I can't seem to rember meeting you ..... " He remembers an incident going into the Green Gryphon starving and being served by a particularly kind waitress. He then put it togeather that was the person in front of him, now if he could just remember her name. "Oh now I rember you were the one who saved me from starving to death at the Green Gryphon. I don't remember a battle off the top of my head, but I might have met you before that. So what is your name again I am horrible at remembering them? Also what brings you on this wonderful trip through the desert?" The last question was said with no lack of sarcasm as the heat of the day would only continue to increase until at least noon.

Of course they often took a break during the hotest hours of the day and continued moving into the late eveaning and started in the early morning to make up for the hours of travel lost during the break. Then again moving at the hotest hours of the day could be deadly for the pack animals as well as the people who had to walk so it made sense to do such. He looked back over the horizon carefully looking for sings of trouble. After a short time of seraching the horizon he didn't see anything yet and turned back to the Nireza listening for her answers.

Gigit did not like the heat of the desert. Being a gnome, her body was closer to the ground which meant closer to the hot desert sands. She could actually feel the heat radiating from the ground, heat that the sand stored from basking in the sun fourteen hours a day. The winds always seemed to blow a foot over her head and she kept having to refill her canteen with more water. She did not want to be here. It was not by choice however, he had drawn the short straw out of the town guards to accomany the caravan of merchants and she was sworn to her duity. No matter her state, she did not complain aloud, but she was miserable in her head.

She looked up and while most of the merchants were silent, a couple had struck up conversation. Gigit felt best for her to stay silent, she was not much interested in the life of a merchant. She knew that everything she wanted cost too much for her right now and that alone made her dispise merchants to some degree, with their inflated prices and swindling techniques.

As if hitting a brick wall, Gigit stopped walking. She felt something under the ground, she was not sure what it was or if other people had felt it. The sands were shifting, but they were not on a sand dune at that moment, so Gigit didn't know why exactly. She was worried, her hand fell to her sword immediately in reflex, her small fingers gripping the hilt, but not drawing her weapon so as to not fear the merchants incase it was just a trick of the heat with her mind. She looked out and didn't see anything. The sensation stopped, she didn't feel the shifting of teh sands anymore, perhaps it was nothing.

Then something grabber her leg. Gigit let out a small shriek. Stange people started to pop out of the ground, some other people were being grabbed from underneath. Gigit drew her sword and stabbed it at the hand below that was grabbing her, cauing it to release her. Gigit cupped her hands around her mouth and warned everyone, Sand bandits!

Kaess heard the cry and quickly turned to his combat mode well this would be the first action on this trip a bit faster than he had expected it though. He saw a hand jump out for his leg sweaping down he lifted the bandit out of the sand fliping the bandit over his head and with a swift motion choped the mans neck with is other hand leting him fall to the ground dead. He also stabed the ground with his leg as he was fliping the first bandit. His leg stabed another bandit between the eyes the claws on it piercing the mans forhead. The bandit was fast enough to avoid being killed, but he was wounded and it would be difficult to see with a wound like that.

Three more bandits Jumped up around Nireza and four more rose about ten feet apart around Gigit. Around the rest of the carvan there were more than 30 other bandits including a large man with a scimitar twice the size of a normal one, but he seemed to have no problem wielding it in one hand. He was the most distictive of the group clearly a man of power, skill, and training. Why a man like this was a bandit leader seemed hard to understand, but at the moment he seemed intent on getting one wagon. It belonged to a merchant who had seemed jumpy all trip and was the one who insited on finding and hiring people like himself. Kaess didn't take much as payment as it wasn't his thing, but others had and not cheaply. Some this merchant had payed out of his own purse and those mercenaries had quickly gone to the aid of their employer. Kaess thought, 'Probably think of him as nothing but a gold source, but oh well at least he was protected.'

Still something bothered Kaess this was too well planed out the bandits were in a perfect position to surprise them all, but even the basic guards and merchants with some combat skill still out numbered them too much for this attack to make sense. "Something isn't right." He said to himself. Several bandits came at him then, no more time to think. His dragon blood started to heat up from the fight soon he would show them why you don't mess with the decendents of a dragon.

Nireza was about to reply to Kaess when out of nowhere the caravan was attacked. She was expecting to have at least a few seconds warning if the caravan was attacked. But with no warning whatsoever, she had three bandits on her, and the entire caravan seemed to be swarming with them. She had not survived this long for no reason, however. Before he could react, her dagger had pierced a bandit's throat, mortally wounding him. Another bandit reached for her ankle, trying to grab it. He wasn't fast enough to grab her, but it was enough to throw her off balance. She fell backwards, but she was able to roll out of the fall into a crouched position, using her light weight to her advantage. This gave her enough time to take note of her surroundings. Everything had happened so fast that the caravan was still moving forward. She decided that her best bet was to get out of immediate contact and cast spells. She leaped onto the back of a moving wagon and pulled out her wand with her left hand, leaving her dagger in her right. She saw a bandit about to follow her onto the wagon, but she blasted him in the face with a magic missile, leaving him lying stunned on the hot sand.

Gigit looked around her, gathering her wits and trying to form a plan. She did not really know any of the other guards, nor did she know which ones were better able to defend the merchants and their good against the onslaught.

A bandit caught sight of Gigit and assumed that her size made her an easy and weak target. He charged her, with his sword flailing in the air like a madman. As he got near her, he lower his weapon pointing at her in a feable attack. Gigit side-stepped the attack and backhand-sliced the back of the man's knees. He collapased to the ground, not dead, but he would no longer be a threat.

The abilities of the guards were more defined now. There were two in particular that stood out. One had positioned herself on top of a cart and was casting spells. Gigit was awed by her some and she told herself that once this mess was all sorted out, she wanted to speak to the spellcaster -- Gigit wanted to learn some spell casting of her own. There was another guard who was effortlessly fighting the bandits. He was also unique, but Gigit could not pin-point what was different about him.

Gigit ran toward a larger group of the bandits. They were encroaching onto one particular wagon, it belonged to the wealthiest merchant in the caravan. One of the bandits had a large scimitar which seemed to signify some sort of rank among the bandits. Gigit stopped a decent enough distance away from the bunch and shouted out to them Stop this mess! You will never get away from here alive!

Almost half the bandits were dead, but many of the guards had now been drawn towards the center of the camp. Mainly closer to the wealthy merchant's cart. The man with the sword laughed as he cut through gaurds left and right. He had just taken several blows to decapitate a particularly skilled mercenary when he heard a voice chalenge him and he saw a gnome. A somewhat skilled gnome, but a gnome. He laughed at her. "Come little one you really think you can challenge the leader of the Immortal Desert Storms." Another mercenary tried to slash the man from behind and recieved a sword to the gut, the sword moved faster that should have been possible. "Ha I don't think so, but it if you want death come I will bring it to you." He smiled at Gigit positioning him self and waiting for her to make a move, his sword positioned to counter swiftly and with deadly force and also preventing her from leaving easily. "As will my immortal men." As he said this several of the dead bandits started rising again.

Many bandits had fallen to the magic missles of Nireza, but something felt wrong to her. The bandits almost fell too easily to the missles and they kept coming regardless of the losses. If inspected she would find that the bodies were not human more constructs then anything else animated by magic. She would be surprise as the ones she previously struck down would rise to strike at her again.

Kaess finished off another few with carefully calulated and executed moves and then he realized as he stabed another one in the neck what the problem was, they all looked almost the same in their facial features. Being surprised he said his thoughts out loud. "What they all have similar faces?" Only the bandit leader and two others he could see near the commander had major differences. Those two seemed to be weaving a spell and it didn't look like they were finished yet. Well that wasn't good not in the least, something was going on and he didn't like it. He moved off to stop them, but soon found himself surrounded by whatever bandit could get in his way whatever they were.

He was even more surprised as was the rest of the guards as the presumed dead bandits got back up. Aparently it was going to take more than a killing blow to kill these things. He knew he could get rid of them with a fireball, but then there went the wagons and carts and he didn't think the owners would be happy. "Damit someone stop those two!" He yelled out and pointing at the casters. Even if the casters were well defened he hoped somebody could break through before they finished. He fought lauching punches and kicks this time when he downed an oponent he destroyed the head or other body parts with blows or buring them with fire, which for now also seemed to work.

Nireza continued to cast her magic missiles at the bandits. She had now left several of them lying in the sand, apparently dead. She could make sure of that later. Now her goal was to, with the others, take down all of the bandits as quickly as she could. It seemed odd to her that the bandits weren't trying to evade her attacks. Her position on the wagon gave her a good view of her surroundings. She noticed that one of the bandits seemed to be a lot more skilled than the rest. She then saw him challenged by the gnome warrior. She seemed a bit over matched, but Nireza had to admire her courage. When the fallen bandits rose and began fighting again, she cursed under her breath. After hearing Kaess' comment, she noticed that the bandits did not appear to be human. They were something else. The realization hit her that it was the leader and his two casters that they should be focusing on, not the other bandits. She aimed her wand at the nearer spellcaster's face and struck him with a magic missile. It seemed to disrupt his casting a bit, but she had no way of knowing whether it caused injury. She was now considering pushing her acrobatic skill to the limit by leaping from her wagon over to another wagon and then behind the bandit wizards where she would kill them, hopefully before they realized what had happened. While hatching this plan, she fired a second missile at the other spellcaster.

While the missle interupted the caster a bit it did not stop him from continuing to cast the spell. The other one motioned casting a second spell inside of the first one raising a shield of energy that deflected the next incoming missle. Both caster were now covered in the shining shield that seemed to protect them from both magic and physical, since an arrow was deflected away shortly after it was set up. The tide of battle was now turning in favor of the bandits. As many of the guards had paniked from the belived dead rising back to life, at the command of one man. The leader seemed to enjoying his fight with Gigit, more toying with her then seriously fighting, always using just enough strength to keep her on the defensive.

Kaess was continuing to fight, but it wasn't easy. Even with his skill it was dificult to fight these numbers. "Darn I need some ... " Smashes the face of another golem in turns to face another that slashes at his arm scoring a hit. "aah .... damn it to hell, I need time. Wait that might do it caravans won't like it, but most of the carts should be alright." He performs a wirlwind attack clearing the area around him. Using the opening he moves over to a mage who he had been talking to earlier. She seemed to be doing better than others in this group. "Cover me for a bit I need to prepare a spell and it isn't easy." His wound still hurting he started preparing his spell letting his already bolling draconic blood feed him magic as he wove it into the desired spell. Some of the caravan might be damaged, but better then the bandits wining this fight.

Nireza saw the barrier go up around the spellcasters, deflecting her spell. Damn, they're not supposed to be able to protect themselves and continue their spell. She targeted other bandits, trying to, where possible, help out weaker people. From her vantage point, she could tell that the battle was not going well. Then she saw the warrior she recognized from earlier come toward herself, smashing golems as he went. She replied to him, "I'll do what I can." She started blasting bandits as they approached Kaess. She saw a couple guards nearby who appeared to be trying to hide from the bandits. She yelled, "Get up and fight like men. Don't let the bandits get to the spellcaster." The guards obeyed and, for a time, between the three of them, they were able to keep the bandits off Kaess.

Kaess was glad to see the with the help of the two gaurds they were keeping the bandits at bay. The bandits still pressed and much to his dismay a few pulled out cross bows that were soon pelting them with arrows. He was forced to duck around the side of the wagon before continuing his spell. He slowly built up energy for the spell he watched as the men kept fighting and he saw several gaurds fall, but they seemed to be relizing how to fight these constructs now and weren't as afraid any more.

When he finished build the spell he noted the distance he needed to move through and he would have to do it fast, if he wanted to surprise those mages. Only 40 feet beetween his group and the bandit leader and casters. He would seperate them shortly. "Okay I am making a break for inside twenty feet of those casters. Think you three can keep the way clear it is going to take most of my concentration to hold this spell, so I can't do much more than doge." He told the others in a low voice so they weren't over heard easily, but it was still above the sound of battle around them. As soon as he had the ready answer from the three guarding him he moved out quickly.

The bandit commander spoted them when they were about thirty feet away and motioned. Most of the archers turned arrows in Kaess' group's direction. They were soon doging arrows. One guard falling to a well placed arrow in his forhead. However, they also gained two other guards with heavy shields as they moved. The commander than bashed his opponet to the side and stopped them just short of their goal. Kaess took a chance and tumbled forward unleashing the spell as soon as he was in range. Fire expanded in a ring around them slowly expanding from around the group burning several constructs, damaging some of the wagons near by too and arrows as it expanded to it's twenty foot radius. Trapping the group in with the casters, bandit leader and about 4 burnt constructs.

On Kaess's side their were three gaurds, Nireza and if Gigit woke up she would help too. The spell was sucessful, but the leader had scored a deep hit on Kaess' left inside leg. He stumbled as the pain shot up his leg. He could still move the leg a bit, but it put him at a serious disadvantage. Hopefully the other's would even the fight out. "It worked now we just have to kill the leaders." He smiled weakly.

The bandit leader smiled with a grin. "Just what I was about to say."

Nireza replied to Kaess, "I'll do what I can. Those bandits won't get near you if I have anything to say about it." The other two answered similarly. Nireza blasted another golem's head with an magic missile and then jumped off the wagon and landed at a run a few feet ahead of Kaess, but enough to the side to not interfere with his dash. Soon arrows were coming at the group. Nireza made herself difficult to hit, ducking and weaving and pulling a few stunts. She even managed to put her dagger through a couple bandits. After two new guards with shields were protecting the rest from the arrows, Ni cast a magic missile at a crossbow wielding bandit from behind one of the shields. Soon, the group made it to the bandit leaders. Still hiding behind a shield, she took down another bandit as Kaess released his spell. She found herself surrounded by a circle of fire with Kaess, three guards, an unconscious halfling, and the bandit leaders. She rolled just past one of the spellcasters and stabbed him in the back of the neck, piercing his spine. She saw one of the constructs coming at her and placed a magic missile into its chest, bringing it to the ground.

OOC: I'm assuming the mages used the spell "Shield". If I'm wrong, and they were using "Mage Armor" or another spell that would have deflected Ni's dagger, I'll correct this post.

The caster looked surprised as he was stabed and them collapsed, but he oddly had a happy almost estatic look on his face. The magical energy he was collecting seemed to flow out with his blood forming half of a circle that was slowly writing itself into the ground. The other caster seemed to convluse as he dropped to the ground with that same wound in his neck. He blood soon forming the other part of a the circle. The bodies seemed to convulse more as they started to change wings sprouted from their backs and two demonic creatures burst from their skins. Both were male, had horns on their head and were very atractive, to the point of distraction. They also wore barely anything on their bodies. Both had the same wound in their neck as the bodies they had burst from, but now the wounds were closing. Both turned smilling at Nireza summoning whips of fire and proceding to attack her with them.

The air felt thick with a strange gass coming from the magic circle. It was thick and smelled of sulfer, but slow to expand. It seemed that the golems had stoped working for the moment, but some how this didn't feel like a good thing to all present. The bandit leader just laughed as he seemed to gain strength.

Kaess barely manged to tumble aside as he slowly worked on casting a healing spell. The guards were not able to even compete with this monster of a man up close and were getting out small cross bows on their hip to strike him with at a distance. "Jeez just who are these people and why did it half to be demons. Just my luck I get to enjoy doging your big stupid sword." The giant man didn't seem to care, but was intent on killing him. Oddly Kaess almost felt he had fough this man before but where was the question? Seeing the circle sending gasses out he cursed to him self as he continued to doge and heal the wound on his leg.

OOC: Sorry for the delay on this post didn't see you had posted.

Nireza watched with surprise as the spellcasters both fell and transformed after her blow which should have killed one of the mages. She hadn't been paying attention to the mage's face immediately after she stabbed him since she was attacking the approaching golem. She quickly realized that the spellcasters were transforming into demons, even before she could really take in their appearance. She had always been fairly resistant to charms, so between that and her celestial heritage (which she didn't know about), her performance was not influenced by their appearance. She dodged their first attacks and, to their surprise, she ran toward them and jumped upward. Her jump was high enough for her to use one of the demons' shoulders to jump farther. This stunt was fast, but not quite fast enough for her to completely escape injury. The other demon's whip struck her heel as she was launching herself off his partner's shoulder. However the whip also struck the demon in the face, making him angry at his partner. Nireza pulled a forward flip in the air as she flew across half the length of the circle, over Kaess' head. She rolled as she landed, effectively breaking the fall and keeping the force from further injuring her foot. She turned to see the two demons fighting each other. She refrained from attacking either of them for the moment and cast a magic missile at the bandit leader, hitting him in the face.
